Contact your senator or representative directly for tickets well before leaving Florida
Each Member of Congress has a limited allotment of tickets each week. It is recommended that you write or call your Senator or Representative months in advance with tour ticket requests to ensure availability. These tours can be booked through the tour coordinators in each Florida Delegation Member's office.
Gallery passes to watch the House and Senate in session can be obtained by visiting the offices of Florida Delegation Members. You can also get information on each Florida's Congressional Delegation Members by looking on their individual websites.
Make your hotel or motel room reservation before arriving in Washington
The high demand for accommodations makes last minute arrangements unwise! The center city area can be expensive; reasonably priced accommodations are usually available in the nearby Virginia suburbs. It is convenient to have accommodations near a Metro (subway) station. To look for a hotel or make reservations, call Washington, D.C. Accommodations at 1.800.554.2220 or visit its web site at www.dcaccommodations.com. Also visit Capital Reservations at www.washingtondchotelsonline.com or call 1.800.VISIT.DC.
Public Transit is Safe, Convenient, Clean & Affordable
Florida House recommends using public transit while touring:
Metro (D.C. Subway System): Metro can take you all over the city, the National Mall, and surrounding areas. Fares range from $1.35 to $4.50 and can be purchased at any Metro station. Visit www.wmata.com.
Buses: Fare is $1.35 or, with Metro transfer, 45¢.
Taxis: Fare usually runs $20 or less due to D.C. zoning price controls.
Tourmobiles: Authorized by the National Park Service, Tourmobiles travel to points of interest all over the city and allows unlimited boarding privileges the day of ticket purchase. Visit www.graylinedc.com
Old Town Trolley: Trolley tours, which travel to points of interest all over the city, offer unlimited boarding privileges the day of ticket purchase. For tour and ticket info, call 202.832.9800 or visit www.historictours.com.
The Circulator Bus travels along five popular routes during the day, with hours extended during the summer. The cost is only $1. For more information, including routes and stops, visit: www.dccirculator.com
Parking: Parking is scarce near touring areas. Florida House suggests Union Station as a great central location for parking near the capitol and mall area.
Don't forget, we are happy to welcome you to Florida House Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm (except when closed on all Federal holidays).
